Description

APTA ALASKA MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETING

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2026, 7 PM

IN-PERSON AND ZOOM OPTIONS
(Check your email for the Zoom link)

Location:

Advanced Physical Therapy
Anchorage, AK

Topic: Mentorship in the Last Frontier: Building clinical reasoning, confidence, and professionalism

Speaker: Vicente Mauri, PT

The goal of mentorship is not to create a clinician who practices like you. It is to help create a clinician who can think clearly, act ethically, seek evidence, communicate well, and continue growing when you are not in the room.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

1.     Differentiate mentoring, supervising, precepting, training/coaching, and clinical instruction in physical therapy practice.

2.     Use a structured but flexible “system” to promote clinical reasoning rather than dependence on mentor-provided answers.

3.     Apply at least three high-yield questioning strategies to guide a colleague’s examination, differential diagnosis, plan of care, and progression decisions.

4.     Deliver feedback that is specific, behavior-based, psychologically safe, and linked to professional growth goals.

5.     Develop a simple mentorship plan that includes goals, protected touchpoints, accountability, and outcome measures.
